Important Tomato Sauce News!
introducing: Roman’s
Hello friends and sauce lovers,
I write to you on this beautiful Thursday afternoon with some (very) important news. After a year in the sauce business, there is change afoot—and that change is GOOD. Like a beautiful butterfly emerging from its tightly wrapped cocoon, our metamorphosis is complete: A Very Good Tomato Sauce is now, officially, Roman’s.

When we started this very small tomato sauce company last year (part passion project, part experiment, part need I had to have better jarred tomato sauce available to me at all times), I wanted to see where it went before making any major decisions. As a self-funded project, it felt especially important to grow things slowly and steadily, and I’m so glad I did.
There were plenty of learnings along the way (ask me anything!). But one of the most obvious was that if we were going to make this a real-deal company, “A Very Good Tomato Sauce”—while kind of cheeky, and a good way to avoid being serious and vulnerable about actually wanting to start a tomato sauce company—was perhaps not the name to move forward with. After many a thought exercise, we decided to double down and call it Roman’s. Not only did it already sound like a tomato sauce brand (shockingly, it wasn’t), it also happened to be…my name. (Everyone was calling it Alison Roman’s Tomato Sauce, anyways.)
The sauce is the same (it’s perfect), the labels are modified (gorgeous), and now, thanks to Faire—a company we’ve long used to stock our shelves at First Bloom—we’re finally available wholesale. We’re hoping to be on the shelves of as many small grocery stores and retailers as possible, so if you have a favorite place you like to shop, please spread the word and request us! (If you’re a retailer or grocer yourself, you can find us at romans.faire.com.)

With a new name comes a new website—you can find us at cookwithromans.com. The site is, if I may say so, breathtaking. Click around, scroll through, have a good time. (Thank you to our friends at DBA for their incredible design work, we love you so much.) News you can use: When ordering through our site, you’ll get free shipping on orders over $70…and if you’re in NYC we offer SAME DAY DELIVERY (Monday–Friday on orders placed by 3 p.m.).
You can also follow us on Instagram @cookwithromans, where we’ll do fun little sales and use sensual photos of pasta to encourage you to buy more sauce.

Thank you to everyone who bought a jar, used it for their meatballs on a Wednesday night, told their friends about it, left a review and then came back for more (especially the former jarred sauce-skeptics—we see you, we appreciate you, thank you for giving us a chance). We couldn’t have gotten here without you, and your support of our little company means the world. I’m so excited to see what it becomes.
xo,
Alison
