Store updates, plus, a little list of Amsterdam favorites

Hello from a busy behind the scenes summer. I’ve been bowled over by the support and enthusiasm for the forthcoming First Bloom locale coming this fall– and as soon as I have updates worth sharing, I’m going to be sharing them. Right now, it’s a lot of, frankly, very boring (but important and necessary) stuff that has very little visual representation– HVAC unit upgrades. Conversations with Con Edison. Permits and licenses and contracts. Picking out our oven (that part is fun). Laying the groundwork for what I’m sure will be a totally smooth and seamless construction process that will result in an on-time opening (my lips, god’s ears, etc.)!

While we wait for it all to come together, there are OTHER things worth being excited about, chief among them: A Very Good Tomato Sauce is now available at one of my favorite places to order groceries from, Farm to People. If you’re in the New York area, rejoice!

To celebrate, FTP has given you all a little gift: Click here and enter code FIRSTBLOOM for $25 off your first Farm Box from Farm to People (either a Seasonal Produce or Cook's Box). Shopping with them is a great way to support local farmers and producers farming and making excellent products, and plus, they have the best yogurt (and now….a very good (great??) sauce).

As told in A Little Newsletter, my last trip en route to Amsterdam wasn’t as peaceful as I fantasized it would be, but that said, while we were there, we did have a great time. It was relatively easy to get around with tiny prince in tow (for those interested: we traveled with the Cybex convertible stroller situation which is both a car seat and stroller in one, and both the airbnb and hotel we stayed in had cribs/pack and plays, so we didn’t need to bring our own).

A number of you have asked for recommendations for a trip later this year or maybe next year or maybe just one day, so you’ll find the list below. Per usual, it’s a list compiled of other peoples suggestions and places we stumbled upon. For me, travel is best when you ask as many people as possible for their suggestions (friends, strangers, etc) and then ignore those suggestions when it’s too inconvenient to do otherwise– you might surprise yourself with what you find.

I’ll say, we really loved Amsterdam. The parks, the weather, the people, the cafes– all a dream. While I was there for work (Something from Nothing is published in DUTCH can you believe it? And later this year……French. Stay tuned!), I was able to get in a few days of aimless strolling with my family. Max was not interested in figuring out how to navigate the bicycle culture with a toddler, so we walked everywhere (my preferred method of transit, to be honest). I was delighted at how totally doable that was, and yes, we did average over 20k steps a day, and yes, we DID make a daily comment about “getting our steps in.”

For your other summer travel, there’s a Paris list here, and a Maine list here.
