What to Cook

Sticky Apple Cake

This custardy, caramelized cake is the best vessel for all your beautiful fall apples, bar none.

Blueberry Cornmeal Tart

With jammy blueberries, a crunchy, buttery cornmeal crust, and preferably some vanilla ice cream on the side, this tart is not only delicious—it’s shockingly easy to make.

Salted Apricot-Honey Cobbler

Bring this nutty, jammy, not-too-sweet cobbler out at the end of your next dinner party with a pint of vanilla ice cream. Everyone will love it.

Perfect, Crispy Pancakes

These pancakes are even more perfect topped with cold, tart marmalade.

Chicken and Chickpea Soup

Pick any leftover meat off the carcass, make some stock, and you’re well on your way to a big pot of this wonderful soup.

Salted Butter and Chocolate Chunk Shortbread

It’s cookie season! Make these for yourself, your neighbor, or your cookie swap.

Deep-Dish Honey Apple Galette

This is a real showstopper of a dessert, and is a welcome way to end any holiday meal.

A Pot of Brothy Beans

Ring in the new year (or any day) with a big pot of brothy beans (yes, this recipe works with black eyed peas!).

Whole Fish With Soy and Citrus

For those curious about cooking a whole fish but nervous to try, this skillet method is as simple as cooking a chicken breast. This method, which keeps the skin and bones involved, prevents overcooking and drying out (plus it's more fun to eat).

Quick Lamb Ragù

A simple sauce made with mostly pantry staples.

Lemony Chicken Soup With Fennel and Dill

Lighter than traditional stew, this lemony chicken number relies on potatoes to thicken it, rather than flour or another starch. If you can, buy fennel with the stem and fronds intact so you can take full advantage of every part of the vegetable.

Crispy Pork With Buttered Radishes

These crisp, panko-crusted cutlets are your weeknight answer to tonkatsu or Milanese with a simplified, one-step breading procedure, no eggs or flour required.
